Digging For The Past

The printed edition of the paper will continue to be distributed free and posted on the Island Moon website islandmoon.com and through a link on the Facebook page theislandmoonnewspaper each Thursday. 

The paper will remain free on the site for two weeks then be archived on our website islandmoon.com for future reading for subscribers.

We are also adding our news and photo archives to the website which go back to 1996 which will include the 1150 issues we have published up until this point. The archiving and uploading of these large files will not happen all at once due to the volume and time involved in getting it all organized and uploaded but the first tranche is expected to be on the site within a few weeks. 

In addition to the archives of past issues we are also including a list by subject on the website which will compile our files on a series of Island topics with the history and up to date changes on everything from history to parks, businesses, to Island events. This list is currently ready for uploading on the site and will be available with the official launch on the site in the next few weeks. It updated weekly as events and projects change. One of the facets of the subject matter will be the documents on file with each project that form the basis for formation of various Island institutions and events and put them all in one place so that readers can follow projects back to their origin. The goal is the provide subscribers with a one-stop source for the founding documents of Padre Island. We expect to have the first new postings on the website within the next two weeks and the fully functional site up as soon after as humanly possible. 

This is a work in progress and we want to solicit input from readers on the topics and information they would like to see included. Don't be shy. 

We also request that any readers who are interested in subscribing to send us contact information and we will keep you informed as we move forward. We will be offering subscriptions for online only with access to the archives and the daily news updates that we will post on the site, as well as an app that will offer news updates and the latest published paper. 

We will also feature a comment section for Moon subscribers to ask questions and provide their own insight to Island events. This section will be monitored to avoid personal attacks and misinformation while giving them a place to get questions answered in a timely manner. 

Also, due to the continued requests from readers for mailed subscriptions were are going to bring that option back for readers who want the hard copy edition each week mailed to their home. We offered this many years ago and it allows part-time Island residents to keep up with Island news while traveling or who have a second home away from The Island. We are working through the cost of that process now and will have subscription rates available once the website is fully up and running. Stay tuned to this site for updates as soon as we conclude that process. 

Lastly, we want to thank our readers over the years and the Moon contributors who help us make all this happen each week. As we move fully into the digital age we are offering information across a wider variety of platforms but as always our focus is on providing accurate facts and edited copy to serve our Island community with a reliable and positive force moving into the future.
